250 SECONDARY-SCHOOL PUPILS TO SEE 'DOSSIER CACHAI'

On December 4th, at 11.00 h, the Salón de Actos (Colegio Mayor of the UA) will host the representation Dossier Cachai, Aula Abierta de Filosofía y Ética, a pedagogical experience which, according to stage director Pepe de Jiménez, ¨deals with denouncing the structure behind the new neoliberal world order, a functioning which places economic criteria above ethic considerations, one in which mercantile profits are more important than people’s lives. The performance will be viewed by 250 secondary-school pupils from the province of Alicante.

The play, which opens with a presentation and ends with an open debate among participants -, is focused on ¨making a small contribution to uncover the fallacy of this new world order¨, states Jiménez. These ideas take shape on the stage by means of a story that begins in one of the most disadvantaged places in Latin America: the suburbs of Santiago de Chile, on the background of Pinochet’s coup d’état and the intricate scheming meant to overthrow the democratically elected government.

According to Jimenez’s explanations, ¨ the starting point of the play is a story about two orphans reborn from nothingness, who manage to survive for two years in the niche of a cemetery, hunted down by soldiers - something which actually happened, although the rest of the story is fictional.¨

The underlying message is, in Jimenez’s view, ¨the ontological and philosophical reflection on a number of issues, such as the significance of being human, how we exert our freedom, how we reinvent ourselves, making us go back to the age-old question: what is man?¨.
