The Secretariat for Culture and, in cooperation with FNAC, are pleased to announce the third edition of the Poetry Contest (Concurso de Poesía), to be celebrated monthly starting January 2008. The topic of the contest is decided upon by the organizers, the first one being ‘Blackouts’(‘Apagones’).

Anyone residing in the Valencian Community can enter the competition by submitting original poems in either Spanish or Catalan (poems in prose are also admitted) which have not yet received other prizes; each contestant can enter a maximum of two poems per topic. Entries should not exceed 45 lines per poem, or their equivalent in prose.

The deadline for submitting entries for the first topic is February 14, and the jury’s decision will be made public the following week. The poem(s) will be sent via email to , together with an attached document containing the title of the poem, the poet’s CV and contact details. The subject of the message should be ‘Concurso de Poesía’.


The first prize consists in a 70 € FNAC book set, to be awarded on May 23, the publication of the poems on the Alacalle web, as well as the editing of a book with all the prize-winning poems at the end of the entire contest.

For each call for entry, the jury can decide upon up to three special prizes for the poems which best fit the philosophy of the project. The selected poems will be published, along with the awarded one, on The winner of the monthly contest is not eligible for this prize but can be selected for the three mention prizes of each topic.
