On October 14, at 20.00h the UA Paranimf will host the show Variacions al·leluia by Lanònima Imperial, one of Spain’s most important contemporary dance companies. ‘In a space governed by some enormous wings, two marginal and weird-looking characters reminding one of ‘Waiting for Godot’, build up a series of profoundly human scenarios. A rock singer livens up the atmosphere with songs on fear, whose lyrics come from right-wing Spanish political discourses’, explains stage director Juan Carlos García.

From its very beginnings, Lanònima Imperial has been characterized by a strong tendency towards experimentation and by the wish to explore different genres and approaches. This montage is yet another ‘aesthetic adventure, highly poetical in nature, both in its staging and in its virtuosity’. ‘This piece’, the director states, ‘was triggered by the wish to stage something based on falsity and the sublime, highlighting that sometimes the apparently refined is nothing more than a grouse manipulation of certain clichés used by populist politicians in order to create empty speeches’.

Lanònima Imperial, founded in 1986, is an important company, recognized worldwide. Its founder and director, Juan Carlos García, is considered one of the best choreographers of his generation and he has received important national and international prizes.
