EXHIBITION ON WOMEN'S CONSCIENCE

The pictorial exhibition Tras la conciencia impedida will be opened on 21 November at 12:15 at the Aifos Exhibition Hall in the University of Alicante within the framework of the acts organised by the University of Alicante on the Internatioinal Day against Violence against Women. The exhibition, by the Alicante artist Tana E. Ruiz, is made up by fourteen pieces and writings in parellel, in which she has captured a search carried out by herself for the last five years. Ruiz explains: “It’s the search for women’s own conscience, for our thoughts, whose development and transmission have been restricted and underrated”.

“Women’s separation from psyquic and physical is shown here, clearly exposed, as a cruel consequence of our patriarchal feminisation, as it can be seen in the piece Mater separatíssima or in Tocador-separador, and as a requirement of our submission to the male in pieces such as La ciudad de día and La ciudad de noche”.

Another subject, the mother/daughter relationship, where this feminisation perpetuates, is examined in pieces such as Titánide Lastrada or the pictorial collage Maternidad aislada en Fantasilandia. The author points out that in the exhibition “there is a questioning about the artistic training, in which there are no work pieces done by women and, above all, there is an effort to find ways of expressing our direct perception, our own conscience”.

The exhibition will be shown until 23 December 2008.
