SAHARA PROBLEMS UNDER DEBATE

"To raise awareness of Sahara problems, the lack of rights and government recognition" is the main subject of the III Conferences Series on Western Sahara Awareness, according to Fatma Sidi, Sahara Representative in Alicante and Coordinator of the event. The seven speeches series, which will take place from the 14th of November until the 18th of June, is held within the framework of the International Year of Defence of Human Rights in Western Sahara.

Sidi says: "The most important issue for us is the determination of the Sahara people because we think that the Sahara issue is one of an unfinished decolonization. There will be very rich speeches referring to this, explaining this issue from different points of view: music, literature, child protection, women, etc."

The first speech, Tripartite agreements and real dispute situation, made by anti-corruption prosecution officer and Jurists for Sahara Association president, Felipe Briones, will be held on 14th November, "it is a very meaningful date in a bad way, because a 14th November 1975 Sahara's area was divided. Moreover, the series will be attended by personalities like Luis Leante, 2007 Alfaguara Award, who will make the speech Sahara refugee camps: literature and reality on 3d April.

In addition to the conferences, an anti-personnel mines photography exhibition will be opened at the same time. The series has been organised by Sahara Delegation for Alicante and the University Venue in Alicante City.
