The first edition of Corpórea's artistic contest invitation, body representations at the present time , started by the Museum of the University of Alicante in autumn last year, has ended up with a total of 62 works selected. The jury, made up of plastic artist Paloma Navares, teachers Aurora Alcaide and Bernabé Gómez, director of an art gallery and also teacher, Begoña Martínez Deltell and MUA's director and professor, Mauro Hernández, have highlighted 'the excelent artistic quality of the works exhibited as well as the variety of the techniques and the methods used'.

Corpórea, which counts on the Spanish Ministry of Culture's through the Support programme of cultural plans and promotion, started with the aim of researching the artistic representations of the human body in today's society. This public and international contest, open to all kinds of artists, individuals or groups, in any discipline, has achived a massive participation of creators all around the world. In the end, 225 proposals have been received, done in all kinds of techniques, from the most classic with charcoal or watercolour
drawings to facilities, video art, sound art, electronic art, performance or net-art, going through paintings, illustrations, engravings, sculptures or photographies. The great amount of works selected because of their artistic quality has forced the MUA's direction to chose the Sala 365 in order to harbour the exhibition, which will be shown in March and April this year.

Being an open contest, proposals by very different artists, from students to top artists, have been received. 'There are many proposals of foreigners resident in Spain and Spaniards working in different places around the world”, explains Bernabé Gómez, member of the jury and technician of the MUA, which also commissions the exhibition. Works have come from Israel, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Tunisia, Santo Domingo, Panama and Venezuela, among others… According to Gómez, the most difficult thing has been “the difficulty that entails seeing and analysing every artistic creation, because more than 180 works, which are already done and are not mere sketches or proposals, have been received both physically and through the internet'.

To mark the exhibition, the Museum of the University is preparing the publication of a catalogue and a dvd. A part of the works in Corpórea will become a part of the MUA's contents.

The names of the artists selected can be looked up on the MUA's webpage
