II CIVIC FORUM AGAINST THE RACISM & INTOLERANCE

The University Venue in Alicante receives next November 6 the "II Foro Cívico contra el racismo y la intolerancia de la Comunidad Valenciana" (The Second Forum against the Racism and Intolerance of the Region of Valencia), in which will participate a great number of political and sindical representatives, as well as members of different associations of immigrants and NGOs. The aim is to analyse the discriminatory attitudes due to reasons of origin, religion and ethnic background and to suggest new methods for its eradication.

It is the second forum of analysis and debate celebrated in the Region of Valencia, which main aims are to study the signs of the discriminatory interethnic attitudes and to analyse the ways of intervention to eliminate or alleviate them. The Conselleria de Solidaridad y Ciudadanía (the Department of Solidarity and Citizenship of the Valencian Government) promotes this kind of conferences to avoid the racist and xenophobic attitudes in the Region. In fact, we are the first autonomous community in Spain in which there is a plan, the "Plan Valenciano para la prevención de la discriminación interétnica, el racismo y la xenofobia" (the Valencian Plan to prevent the interethnic discrimination, the racism and the xenophobia), which tries to draw up policies in order to avoid intolerant behaviours.

The opening ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Sala Rafael Altamira. Important figures will attend the conference, for example, the Conseller de Solidaridad y Ciudadanía de la Generalitat Valenciana (Councillor of Solidarity and Citizenship of the Region of Valencia), Rafael Blasco Castany, the Director General de Inmigración de la Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Director General of Immigration), Josep Maria Felip i Sardà, the Concejala de Acción Social del Ayuntamiento de Alicante (Councillor for Social Action of the city council of Alicante), Asunción Sánchez Zaplana, the President of the University of Alicante, Ignacio Jiménez Raneda, and the Vice President for University Extension, Josefina Bueno Alonso.

In the opening ceremony, the director del Centro de Estudios sobre Migraciones y Racismo (President of the Study Centre for Migration and Racism), Tomás Calvo, will present a Study about the change of the values regarding the immigration. Some of the topics of the round tables that will take place during the conferences are the following: the gypsy community, the social intervention in front of discriminatory situations, the migratory reality from the point of view of the Intersectionality or the Valencian Plan for preventing the interethnic discrimination.
And some of the participants in those round tables will be the representatives of the Islamic community in Alicante, of the gypsy associations, of the federation of Latin American immigrants associations and the women's, homosexual and Romanian immigrants associations. The program will include a presentation of the Portal de Redes Sociales (Social Networking site) and of the Plan de Formación de Mediadores ( Mediation Training Program) carried out by the Universidad Jaime I in Castellón.

As it is impossible to study in depth the topics in just one session, the Forum started last year with the idea of becoming a usual meeting point that makes possible the construction of a space of free and egalitarian coexistence.
