Next 12th of November, at 10:00, a symposium about Traducción e identidad diaspórica (TID) will be opened in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Arts (Filosofía y Letras). This symposium will bring to the University of Alicante some of the Romanian cultural full authorities. The meeting, which will be opened by the Romanian Ambassador in Spain, María Ligor, and the rector of the UA, Ignacio Jiménez Raneda, will have some excellent guests as the vice-president of the Romanian Academy and corresponding member of the RAE, and one of the main authorities in Romanian linguistics in the world, Marius Sala, the director of the Instituto Cultural Rumano de Madrid (Romanian cultural institute of Madrid, ICR in Spanish), Horia Barna, or the former director of the Insituto Cervantes en Rumanía (Cervantes Institute in Romania) and present advisor of the Dirección General del Libro del Ministerio de Cultura (General Direction of the Book of the Department of Culture), Ioana Zlotescu.

The symposium, which is coordinated by the professor Catalina Iliescu -the director of the Venue Ciudad de Alicante (Sede Ciudad de Alicante)- will take place between the 12th and 14th of November. Its purpose "is to make known the Romanian literature which is much unknown in Spain", Iliescu says, and insists that in one word, "it is a rapprochement to the Romanian culture, both to language and literature, and also to the contrastive aspects of both languages."

Iliescu assures that it is "the first symposium of this thematic held in Alicante and, without any doubt, one of the more relevant of the world both for its quality and for the quantity of great figures of the Romanian culture which it gets together". Among the presents, it will be the professor of the University of Alcalá de Henares, Eugenia Popeanga, the representative of the Dirección general de Traducción de la CE, Luís González, the poet and translator Dinu Flamând, one of the main representatives of the Romanian diaspora, just as two valencian editorials which publish translated Romanian literature.

The program is completed with a projection of a documentary created by the Taller de Imagen of the UA, and with the tribute to the professor Dumitru Irimia, the responsible of the present collaboration existing between the universities of lasi and Alicante. In addition, the poet Dinu Flamând will offer a poetic recital in the Venue of Alicante.

Although in principle it is designed for the 80 students of translation and interpreting of the UA who have the Romanian as one of their work languages (the UA is the only Spanish university which offers Romanian as a third foreign language in that degree) the Romanian community settled in the province of Alicante has also been invited (they are 30.000, regarding the information given by the Plan Director de Inmigración y Convivencia 2008-2011), and also the general public interested in the Hispano-Romanian cultural relationships.
