The Choir of the University of Alicante calls for soprano, contralto, tenor and bass-baritone admission tests for the year 2014-2015. Students and alumni, administration and service staff, and teachers of the UA can join the choir. It is not necessary to have any previous musical training, all you need is to be willing to have fun by singing in a group, learn and acquire basic choral training. Vacancies will also be available for applicants not belonging to any of the previous categories.

The Choir of the University of Alicante is a musical group belonging to the Office of the Vice-president for Culture, Sports and Language Policies. The main goal of the choir is for its members to learn and have fun while singing. It is also aimed at training choristers in everything choir-related: from the social and cultural aspects to the participation and collaboration in UA’s academic and institutional acts and concerts organised by the university. Exchange with other choirs is also among the choir’s objectives, and so is the participation in national and European contests. The choir is directed by Ramón Jover, a Professor of Choir and Orchestra Direction, Composing and Orchestration who has a lengthy career as a music composer and choir director.

Technique and vocal expression, breathing, articulation, vocalisation, intonation and body language will be taught at the rehearsals. This year, the famous soprano Ana María Sánchez will give a workshop on choir singing, and a course on the basic elements of the music language will also be held. Besides, the choir also offers free-elective credits, ECTS credits, educational and musical teaching, and possible trips and meetings.

Its wide repertoire covers anything from polyphonies of the 15th and 16th century to modern music. All performances are “a capella”, which increases their difficulty but also allows us to enjoy the beauty of the natural tuning of the voice.

The audition to join the choir will consist on a vocal exercise to test the tessitura and ability to tune, followed by a personal interview. Tests will be carried out on 29 and 30 September (from 10 a.m.) and on 1 and 8 October 2014 (at 7 p.m.) in the Culture Information Point of the Language and Culture Service, ground floor of the Auditorium, San Vicent del Raspeig Campus.

Registration is open via until 24 September. Once your application has been sent, you will receive an e-mail with your test hours. Nonetheless, it is also possible to take the test by simply being at the Culture Information Point on the date and time mentioned above.
