THE UA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (OFUA) CALLS FOR ADMISSION TESTS

The UA Philharmonic Orchestra (OFUA) calls for the 2014-2015 admission tests for violin, viola, cello, double bass (strings); flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba (wind); and percussion, to be held on 20 and 21 October. Applicants can hand in their applications in person until 15 October, or submit the electronic form until 16 October. The list of applicants will be published on 17 October.

Requirements for applicants are to be over 16 (or to turn 16 during the academic year, with rare exceptions) and under 35, and live in the Region of Valencia.

Selection criteria include being a member of the university community, a student in any of the conservatories of the province of Alicante, a member of any of the musical schools and societies of the cities where university venues are, or having experience with the instrument that you intend to master. However, it is not mandatory to be a student of a conservatory or any other approved centre in order to join the OFUA.

You can register in person by filling in the application form that can be found in the information brochure and handing it in at the Culture Information Point (PIC), ground floor of the Auditorium (965 90 37 25 or 965 90 98 27). Electronic registration is also available.

ADMISSION TEST

The admission test will take less than 10 minutes and have two parts:

1. Interpretation of a free-choice piece of strings and percussion. It is indispensable for the wooden and metal winds to interpret the compulsory pieces.

2. Interpretation, depending on the instrument, of the compulsory orchestral fragments.

These pieces will also be available at the Culture Information Point (PIC), ground floor of the Auditorium, once the application has been submitted.

Under the baton of tenured and artistic conductor Mihnea Ignat, the OFUA has become the highest quality orchestral group in the province of Alicante. Throughout its short path it has been invited to play in several outstanding halls like the National Music Auditorium of Madrid, the Auditorium of Zaragoza, the Auditorium of Murcia or the Auditorium of the Provincial Council of Alicante, among others, and its performances have been broadcast in the “Clásica” channel of the National Radio of Spain.

The OFUA works closely with Albéniz Foundation and Queen Sofía College of Music of Madrid, both worldwide highly regarded institutions in musical teaching. OFUA members usually play with renowned groups at a national and international level as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Mozart Orchestra of Bologna (Italy), the National Youth Orchestra of Spain or the Valencia Regional Government Youth Orchestra, which widely supports the educational and artistic task that is being developed by the local group. Moreover, it has participated in this summer’s Music Fest Perugia.
