During the month of July, the University of Alicante will celebrate the 3rd L’Alcúdia-UA Classical Theatre Festival with four open-air performances in the archaeological site of La Alcúdia.

The third edition of the festival will open on 3 July with Medea, the foreigner, by theatre company Atalaya Teatro. The second play will be William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, directed by Sebastián Sarmiento and performed by La imprudente company, which will premiere on 10 July. TM Plaute’s La Cistellaria (in Valencian) will be staged by “TeatrEROS” on 17 July. Tickets are 5 euro. On Saturday, 25 July, the festival will close with Rafael Álvarez El Brujo’s performance of Homer’s Odyssey. Tickets will be 15 euro.

Tickets can be bought during the month of June in Instant ticket, and from 7 p.m on the day of the show, at the ticket office.

Also, a Roman menu tasting sponsored by Asociación para el Desarrollo del Campo de Elche is available to attendees prior to the performance. Dinner will be at 8 p.m., and the show will start at 10 p.m.

Medea, the foreigner ATALAYA Teatro

Medea, the foreigner is the most widely acclaimed, award-winning show ever performed by Atalaya company. It was co-produced by Art Carnuntum Festival from Vienna (Austria) and the Mérida Theatre Festival, where it premiered in 2004. The adaptation of texts by Euripides, Seneca, Heiner Müller and several other contemporary authors was made by Carlos Iniesta.

La Cistellaria (La Senelleta) TeatrEROS.

Written by TM PLAUTE. Translated by Àngela Martí. Directed by Francesca Palou.

Young Selènia was born as a result of rape, abandoned by her mother and raised by a prostitute. When Selènia and a man from a good family fall in love, their different social status and his engagement to a lady from the high society, pursued by his father, make their love impossible.
The play’s staging carefully respects Àngela Martí’s translation from Latin, and gaps in the original text are filled with scenes set in our days.

Comedy in Valencian. Duration: 70 minutes. Tickets: 5 euro

Adaptation of the most relevant chapters in Homer’s Odyssey to tell Ulises’ journey and explain the key events in his Odyssey.
