On Thursday 4 June, at 7 p.m, the University of Alicante Museum will inaugurate the exhibition Del espacio hilado, by Mónica Jover. This artist’s works are marked by the subtle combination of paint and thread, which can be enjoyed by visitors until 25 July at Sempere Room.

Mónica Jover is a pioneer in this new aesthetic and creative trend thanks to the introduction of thread as a main element in her works. With this new material, she creates short, tight backstitches on the dominant painted surface. However, this new element does not break the harmony in her paintings, but rather becomes a part of her serene evolution as a visual art poet.

Through her visual experiments, the artist proves that this new material can become an enriching part of her work and make her poetic expression even stronger, since it is based in the harmony of opposites: objectivity and subjectivity, emotion and logic, dim shades of colour and precise line drawing, three-dimensionality, void and fullness.

Painter Mónica Jover was born in Alcoy and holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos University (Valencia). She also studied at l'École Supérieure Beaux Arts La Cambre, in Brussels, and her career as an artist has brought her work to collective exhibitions in Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, Cairo, New York and Lima. She has received awards from numerous institutions, and last year she created the poster for Alcoy’s 2014 Moors and Christians Festivities.
