FIRST CULTURAL INDUSTRIES "FEED ON CULTURE" ENCOUNTER TO BE HELD AT MUA

Next Thursday, 11 June, “Feed on Culture” (the First Cultural Industries Encounter) will be held at the University of Alicante Museum. From 10.30 a.m to midnight, members of the regional cultural industries of fashion, music, art, audiovisual communication and publishing will have the opportunity to get together and make their work known.

This project was born thanks to a group of students from UA’s Master’s Degree in Communication and Creative Industries (Comincrea), who fostered this initiative led by lecturer Kiko Mora. The event will include presentations, workshops, round tables, music concerts, DJ performances, an outdoors art exhibition and live graffiti.

With a view to promoting encounters between cultural sector professionals and their target audience, the organisers have scheduled four talks: Arly Jones, co-founder of Alicante cartoon producer “Cabeza Voladora”, will speak about work within this sector and also show some of their audiovisual material and drawings; Paco Camarasa will give a talk about the publishing sector in the province; David Sardaña will speak about “Levantine rationalism” in architecture; and the talk by Devilish Games, a video game creation company from Alicante, will be about this technological sector that has become a key element in cultural audiovisual industry.

Mediterrània Audiovisual association will give a workshop on video clip editing, where they will show how an audiovisual production is created. This association is devoted to fostering culture and cinema-related professions, and they will show how to edit a video clip in 8 hours with the help of UA students. Factory Chic will give a machine sewing, “Do it yourself” workshop where they will teach the basics of sewing, pattern-cutting and tailoring. “Photomobile Lab” by Juan Sanz and “Fanzine creation” workshop by El Sótano will be held in the afternoon. In “Photomobile Lab”, the activity will be presented by Juan Sanz, and then the necessary theoretical principles will be applied in order to enjoy a photo creation experience, where participants will have the opportunity to create a story involving the world around them, using only their smartphones. Carlos Andreu and Jorge G. Tresáncoras, members of cultural association El Sótano as well as authors and illustrators of Tinta de verano fanzine, will hold a workshop on publishing where participants will create a mock publication.

The event will also include two round tables on cultural management and fashion. Faust Ripoll, Director of UA’s Languages and Culture Service, and UA lecturers Natalia Molinos (PhD in Arts) and Raúl Rodríguez (Mass Media Semiotics lecturer), will be the members of the round table on cultural management. As for the round table on fashion, its members will be Amparo Valls (director and creative designer of AVA pret-a-porter) and fashion bloggers Elena Vidal, Paloma Amo and Isamá Minayo.

Besides all these activities, graffiti creators from Alicante will make a live graffiti on a large canvas, and at 6.30 p.m a photography exhibition will be inaugurated at MUA’s CUB Room. DJs Ternavsky, Acece, Telefunker and Miss Deep will perform throughout the day, and Alicante bands Mailers (pop-rock), Rosi Finch (rock, grunge) and Chili Train (rock) will perform at MUA from 9 p.m to 12:45 a.m. to bring the event to a close.
