Cine en VOSE en la UA

The 2015/16 edition of the Languages and Culture Service cinema programme will be held from 8 October to 17 December. Films will be screened in the original version with Spanish subtitles at the UA Media Library every Thursday at 4 p.m. This year’s cycle revolves around a triple axis: Arthur Penn, Korean cinema, and the series “Newman and billiards”.

All films will be presented by a UA lecturer or a film critic. If you are interested in attending the sessions, you can apply here. Participants will receive a certificate equivalent to 30 hours - 3 CECLEC-ECTS credits, although you may also apply if you are not interested in a certification.

October 2015: Arthur Penn

The cinema cycle begins with four of the most representative films by Arthur Penn. This American director and producer depicted violence in an innovative way and brought the European artistic point of view into American cinema.

Thursday 8 October - The miracle worker (1962)

Thursday 15 October - The chase (1966)

Thursday 22 October - The left-handed gun (1958)

Thursday 29 October - Bonnie & Clyde (1967)

November 2015: Korean cinema

Are you familiar with Korean cinema? If the answer is no, this selection of films can be a good start for you. The Film Club has chosen four film directors as the main representatives of the Korean New Wave, whose films are having great success in international festivals and among specialised critics. Spanish and American directors have been inspired by their work, and some have even made remakes of Korean films.

Thursday 5 November - Old boy (%uC62C%uB4DC%uBCF4%uC774, Park Chan-wook, 2003)

Thursday 12 November - The way home (%uC9D1%uC73C%uB85C, Lee Jeong-hyang, 2002)

December 2015: Newman and billiards

The perfect end to this term’s cinema activities on campus will be the screening of two films starring Paul Newman as Eddie Felson: The Hustler and The color of money. In both films, shot 25 years apart, billiards are used by the director to stage the protagonist’ adventures and misadventures in their search for victory (either real or just make-believe), to explore failure as a permanent threat and to analyse what human beings are capable of doing to win, or simply to not lose.

Thursday 3 December - The Hustler (Robert Rossen, 1961)

Thursday 17 December - The color of money (Martin Scorsese, 1986)
