New ACUA culture programme

On 30 September, a concert by rhythm & blues band Anaut will open ACUA’s culture programme for September-December 2015. This semester, the University of Alicante will organise 18 shows: seven music events, eight theatre plays, and three dance shows.

Besides this new cultural agenda, the Office of the Vice President for Culture, Sports and Language Policies is also presenting Be Coolture! campaign with an advertisement made by UA students José Pastor and Adrián Arnáiz, the creators of Contratiempo online show.


Anaut’s performance will take place on 30 September, at noon, in the University of Alicante Museum, which is at the core of the university’s cultural life. On 9 October, the Region of Valencia Day, the celebration will include a concert by Konfusió y Lilit i Dionis, also at the museum. In this show, which will start at 8 p.m., the band will present its latest work Un poble de cançons (Mésdemil, 2105), a triple album combining music, literature, photography, drawing, documentary film and fiction.

On 14 October, at 8 p.m., MUA will also host a concert by flamenco singer Vanesa Teba. On 22 October, at 8 p.m., the University of Alicante and Cadena 100 radio station will bring singer Georgina to the Auditorium, where she will present her latest album, Dilema.

This season there will be music shows for all audiences, including 35 years of electronic music, featuring Supergrupo band (Aviador Dro, L Kan and La Monja Enana), who will play at the MUA for the young and nostalgic on 4 November, at 8 p.m. At 7 p.m., right before the show starts, there will be a talk by Rafel Cervera.

The last music event of the semester will be a joint concert by Mara Aranda and the UA Choir, which will be held on 2 December, at 8 p.m., in the Auditorium.


Mario Benedetti’s Pedro y el Capitán (20 October at noon, in the Faculty of Education) will be the first of the eight plays to be performed at the University this semester. The play is directed by Victoria Guillén, and actors are students from the Expert Course in Applied Drama. On 27 October, at noon, the Theatre Club of the University of Burgos will perform Esteve Soler’s Contra la democracia in the Auditorium. On 28 October, Pérez y Disla company will play La Gent at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In November, theatre lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy Una joven Casta (3 November, at noon, in the Auditorium), UA’s Theatre Club Després de la Pluja (11 November, at 11 a.m., in the Auditorium), El Crèdit, directed by Sergi Belbel and produced by Maror Produccions (11 November, at 8 p.m., in the Auditorium), and Juan Luis Mira’s Asalto de Cama (12 November, at 8 p.m., in the Auditorium). The last two plays are included in the Contemporary Spanish Playwrights Festival, organised with the participation of the University of Alicante. Also within the framework of this festival is Ejercicio Fallido para mujeres, a play by Teatro al Vent and Teatro de la Pelambre (24 November, at 8 p.m., in the Auditorium).


Éxodo, a show by the Alicante Chamber Ballet, will be performed in the UA Auditorium on 21 October, at 8 p.m. Original idea is by Boris Chircovskii, and choreography is by Patricia Puig.

On 5 November, at 8 p.m., and also in the Auditorium, the dancers of José Espadero Professional Dance Conservatory will stage their show Terra. On 18 November, Otra Danza company will perform Polvo at 8 p.m. in the Auditorium.


In the first semester of this academic year, UA culture programme also includes nine new exhibitions, besides three more that are already open to the public (Romanian theatre companies from the 19th century, 75 years of the Swedish-Norwegian hospital of Alcoy, and Recordant Sempere).

This semester’s new exhibitions will be: Science and culture in times of war, which opens today and can be visited until 29 October in Aifos Room; Memorables, insignes e intrépidas 1870-1931 (from 3 November to 22 December in Aifos Room); Club Fotográfico Alicante (from 8 October to 11 November in Lecture Building 2); Carles Salvador (from 7 to 19 October at the Faculty of Education); Gravats de Llorenç Ferri (November-December at the MUA); Retroconsolas 2015 (MUA); Estudis d’Art VVAA (December 2105-January 2016, at the MUA); MUA’s artistic traineeship programme (from 2 to 24 October in El Cub Room); and East-West: A working-class housing Taxonomy, photographs by Daniel Sirvent.

Also, applications can now be submitted for a wide range of Culture Workshops on plastic arts, cinema, dance,  cultural dissemination, writing, music, public speaking, journalism and drama.
