The University of Alicante has awarded the 14th Maisonnave Award to architect Juan Antonio García Solera. The candidate was sponsored by Carles Cortés, Vice President for Culture, Sports and Language Policies, who outlined how García Solera’s architectural work, which has made him a referent for the Alicante society, is based upon the same social commitment values at the core of this prize.

According to Cortés, García Solera’s merit is considering architecture as a means to enhance social welfare. Cortés has also emphasised the architect’s close connection to the UA and his willingness to cooperate with the institution, both as an on-the-field professional and by collaborating with some lecturers of the Degree in Architecture. In fact, as a result of this teamwork, many activities have been organised in order to study García Solera’s architectural work.

The awards ceremony will be included in the activities commemorating the anniversary of the Spanish Constitution at the beginning of December. This Ceremony will take place in the Alicante City University Venue, as usual, and will be presided over by UA President Manuel Palomar.
