"Arkano y Chuty a la sombra del Quijote" in collaboration with the UA Theatre Club

Translated by Claudia González Bailador

Alicante, 9 November 2016

The Cervantine year will remain at the heart of the UA 2016 cultural programme right until the end of the year, which will be bid farewell with rap rhythms in ‘Arkano y Chuty a la sombra del Quijote’. The two famous artists, one of which is a UA student and has recently been awarded the Guinness World Record for non-stop rap improvisation after rapping for more than 24 hours straight, will set free the torrent of their imagination once again with windmills, Dulcineas and chivalric romances.

  • When: Thursday 1 December at 11.30 a.m.
  • Where: University of Alicante Auditorium
  • How much: €3 (free for high school students, and open to the general public: attendees can purchase their tickets from 25 November onwards at the UA campus Compás bookshop -no. 35 in the map)

The high school students themselves will also participate in the show (which will be approximately an hour long), by presenting and readingtheir own Cervantine raps. Members of the UA Theatre Club will stage several texts and stories by this renowned author from a fun and modern perspective.

As you can see, it is an interdisciplinary show of great interest when trying to bring young students closer to the greatest author in Spanish literature. .

The artists already have experience in improvising about the life and works of the "Prince of Wits". That is what they did for the ¡Cervantes vive!campaign, organised by Spanish television network La Sexta. You can watch the video on the right side of the screen.

About the artists:

CHUTY

This artist from Madrid has been rapping since he was 14 years old. Many people consider him to be one of the best freestylers in Spanish rap history, and he is also an outstanding improviser: he is a master of double tempo and he comes up with devastating responses thanks to his admirable wit.

He won the 2013 Red Bull Spanish-speaking rap competition and made it to the semifinal in the international competition.

ARKANO

Born and raised in Alicante, Arkano's first appearance on stage was in 2009, when he won the Spanish-speaking Red Bull Rapping Battle Final at the early age of 15, thus making a great entrance in hip-hop culture.

He is considered to be one of the world's best freestylers, which is corroborated by the fact that he is currently the Red Bull Rapping Battle World Final champion.   Arkano is a role model, not only musically, but also socially.

On 29 November Arkano set a new Guinness World Record for non-stop rap improvisation by rhyming for 24 hours, 34 minutes and 27 seconds.
