  • Acensión Padilla, soprano.

Ascensión Padilla was born in Alicante and studied in professional music centres in Alicante. She has been taking vocal technique, interpretation and scenography lessons with Uruguayan soprano Jovita Gómez Couto since 2004. She has given recitals at Teatro Principal of Alicante, Las Cigarreras, Ateneo of Alicante, CAM's Culture Club, ADOC's concert hall (Elda), Teatro Castelar (Elda), Teatro Calderón (Alcoi), Altea's Concert Hall and at the Alicante City University Venue as well as in the city of Florence, and she has toured Germany with the Chamber Orchestra of Paris.

  • Amparo Pous, piano.

Amparo Pous, award-winning pianist in national and international contests, has offered recitals in Spain, Germany and Italy. After completing her piano training in Valencia with Luca Chiantore and at the Madrid Royal Conservatory with Ana Guijarro, she was given a grant by the "Alexander von Humboldt" Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Music (IVM) so that she could extend her music studies at the University of Music and Theatre of Hamburg under Marian Migdal and Burkhard Kehring. She has been invited to take part in distinguished concert series such as the "Mecklenburg-Vorpommen" Festival in Rostock, the Hamburg Concert Hall, the "Palais Schleiermacher" in Berlin, the Rossini Theatre in Pesaro and the Opera Theatre in Rome.

Mare Nostrum String Quartet originated in 2008 thanks to the eagerness of its members: Carolina Martínez Báez-Otermín, Amelia García Gutiérrez (violins), Igor Kovalchuk (viola) and Pedro Bonilla García (violoncello), all of them members of the University of Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra, who wanted to develop their skills within the chamber music world. After completing their studies at the Óscar Esplá Advanced Conservatory of Music in Alicante, each of them now combines a broad interpretative activity with teaching and cultural management. They also hold other undergraduate degrees such as Computer Engineering, Child and Primary Education, Pedagogy, Musicology, and other major fields of music studies, as well as Master's Degrees in Education and Musical Interpretation.

The Alicante Parkinson’s Disease Association is a non-profit organisation created on 12 December 2001 to improve the quality of life of people suffering from Parkinson's disease and their relatives. From the beginning, the organisation's aim has been to promote personal autonomy and offer comprehensive support to people with Parkinson's and their families.

On 30 June 2010, the association was awarded the Public Interest acknowledgement by the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is a recognition of our transparency, quality and know-how as an  organisation providing services to citizens. Furthermore, in an effort to keep improving and to increase social participation, this association is a member of the Spanish Parkinson's Federation and the Alicante delegation of COCEMFE (Spanish Confederation of Physically and Organically Handicapped People).

The association offers different services within the Programme for Comprehensive Care and dedicates great effort to providing information and training, as well as raisingawareness. Additionally, it organises cohabitation activities whose aim is to promote integration and leisure and free time promotion: cultural visits, photography and painting workshops, reading promotion, monthly birthday celebrations where everybody gets together for the afternoon tea, etc.
