Third Polytechnic School Radio Day

Next 11 February, the University of Alicante Polytechnic School radio will be holding the 3rd Radio Day at the Auditorium. Entrance is free up to venue capacity.

The University of Alicante will be marking World Radio Day for the third consecutive year. A series of new events will be coming up this year, including a never-before-seen freestyle rap battle between Arkano (UA student and current international freestyle rap battling champion) and Chuty (2013 national champion).

The programme includes conference “How to keep a diary in times of crisis”, which will be given at the Auditorium at 12.30 p.m. by Ignacio Escolar, director of online newspaper Mar Iglesias, Publicity lecturer at the University of Alicante and director of the Office for Culture and Languages Promotion, will be responsible for opening the conference.

There will be a traditional contest between the four best radio programmes broadcast by students: La Piña, Rock UA, Al final de la Escaleta and Sports UA. Members of the jury will be Denis Rodriguez (COPE radio channel), Silvia Cárceles (SER radio channel), Lola Torrent (Onda Cero radio channel), Gaspar Campillo (San Vicente radio channel) and María Martín (University of Alicante Communication Unit).

For the first time, a contest will be held between the best music bands of the university. This competition will be possible thanks to project “UA’s Got Talent”, an initiative of the Master’s Degree in Communication and Creative Industry. The bands that will be taking part in it are: Bous, Fat Cat Heart Attack, La Caixa de Gel and Waldenskeit.

The 3rd Radio Day will also be attended by Spanish comedian Marco Antonio (host of the Alicante Comedy Club, located in San Vicente), who will be delivering several monologues to liven up the audience. His performance will be presented by Pep Rubio, a steady media collaborator.

Another novelty is that there will be a Gymkhana (a multi-game, skill-based contest). The final game will be held at the Auditorium, where prizes and trophies will be given to finalists and to the winner. The contest will take place on 9 February in the morning, and you may sign up at the Main Library.

Spanish, Alicante-based, tech-company Energy Sistem will provide all prizes and also have a raffle of one of their products.
