Terms and conditions for contestants:

Anyone can take part in the contest, both as an actor/actress or as an author, regardless of whether they have any experience as actors or writers. If you only wish to participate as an author, please check section number 7 of these terms and conditions. Monologues must be maximum 8 minutes long, original and unpublished. It is not obligatory for contestants to own the rights of their monologues. Staging must be based on their acting skills, and contestants must keep technical and stage requirements simple.

The monologues that receive more votes on 20 and 21 May will be staged again at the Closing session, which will be held at Clan Cabaret club on Saturday 28 May. After this, the jury (whose three members are performing artists) will be giving the University of Alicante Awards:

First prize (€600)
Second prize (€400)
Third prize (€200)

Prizes will be subject to any applicable taxes as per the ongoing regulations.

Clan Cabaret will also be awarding a series of prizes:

Public’s Choice Fernando Chapín “Have a drink” Award (€100)
Clan Cabaret Best Text  Award (€200)
Pepe Estruch Best Performance Award (€100)

The public’s most voted monologues will be performed again in November, as part of the show “The magnificent seven”, which will be included in the Spanish Contemporary Playwrights Festival. A €100 fee will be paid to all these actors and actresses. Moreover, the monologists will have the opportunity to perform in a series of shows to be staged at several of the University of Alicante’s venues.

Contestants coming from more than 100 km away will be entitled to a €50 grant, which can only be obtained once.

All contestants will receive a certificate and there will be an award for all finalists.

The deadline for registration is 16 May 2016 at midnight. Registration forms must be submitted to any of these registration points:

1. Clan Cabaret club (C/ Capitán Segarra, 16. 03004. Alicante.)

2. Languages and Culture Service’s Cultural Information Point:

3. You can also register online by using one of these forms: (Spanish) (Valencian) (English)

You will have to fill out the form with the following information: your name and surname, phone number(s), address, email, short resume, and the title, length, director, author and actor/actress of your monologue.

If you only wish to participate as an author, you must submit your texts to any of the registration points before 13 May at midnight, using “Text for the Monologue Marathon” as a subject. Please take into account that the monologue cannot last longer than 8 minutes. The organisation will hand over the submitted texts to the performers and help them get in touch with the authors. Only the texts that are actually staged will be eligible for the Clan Cabaret Best Text Award. If a text is not staged, its author will keep the rights of the monologue and will be authorised to submit it to any future editions of this contest. You can submit as many texts as you like.

The jury reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions given the open and fun nature of the event.

Vote count will be conducted on a percentage basis because it is understood that the number of people attending the marathon may vary every day, and so may the number of casted votes.
