The already consolidated and internationally famousMaster's Degree in Classic Guitar Interpretation and Performance will celebrate its 5th edition. The opening ceremony for the new edition will be held on 13 January at 6 p.m. at the San Fernando 40 University Venue, and it will count on the attendance of the University of Alicante President, Manuel Palomar, who will preside the event accompanied by the Master's Degree director, Juan Antonio Roche, and its academic supervisor, Ignacio Rodes. Several representatives from Alicante's Town Council and Provincial Council will also attend the ceremony.

The event will also include the awards ceremony of the two annual grants given by Banco Sabadell Foundation, and the attendees will enjoy a short recital by former students of the master's degree. On this occasion, it will be directed by Daniel Guerola, Isabel Martínez and Hugo Moltó.

The 5th edition will have thirteen students that have been selected from candidates from all over the world. The lucky students will complete their training between January and June 2017. The chosen students come from Brazil, the United States, Canada, Turkey, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba and Japan, as well as from Spain. They will hold several concerts in Alicante and around the province as part of their training, and they will also visit UA's university venues in Elda, Torrevieja, Villena, La Nucia and Orihuela.

According to the organizers, the Master's Degree is a completely new experience that offers the selected guitarists a unique opportunity of improving their knowledge and instrument's practice by the hand of a group of teachers that have been qualified as the most renowned experts of the world: Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Pepe Romero, Ignacio Rodes, Sergio and Odair Assad, Keigo Fujii, Fabio Zanon, Xavier Díaz-La Torre, neuroscientist Víctor Candia and orchestra director Mihnea Ignat.

2017 ADDA Guitar Cycle

Alicante Provincial Council wanted to take part in this guitar project. This is why, through ADDA Auditorium Foundation, it has programmed seven concerts between January and June 2017 with the participation of the Master's Degree teachers. The seven concerts will form the 5th Alicante's Classic Guitar Cycle. The cycle will begin with a guitar classic concert by the Scottish guitarist that lives in Spain David Russell, on 14 January.

The second concert, on 11 February, will also have the classic guitar as the protagonist. It will be performed by the guitarist from Málaga Pepe Romero, who currently lives in the United States.

Ignacio Rodes and Brazilian guitarist Fabio Zanon will perform together for the first time on 4 March, and the three brothers Assad, Sérgio and Odair will be the performers of several duos for the fourth concert of this programme on 1 April. One new feature for this cycle is including a flamenco guitar concert for the first time. Daniel Casares will be the leading player of this show, which will be held on 29 April. On 20 May it is time for Xavier Días-Latorre, who will perform with a vihuela and a baroque guitar, and we will finish the concert cycle with the Cuban guitarist Manuel Barrueco together with the Beijing Guitar Duo.
