2017 Summer Concerts of the University of Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra

Miguel Borrego Martín will perform with the Philharmonic Orchestra as the solo violin.  Borrego has been the concertmaster of the Spanish National TV and Radio Orchestra since 1997. He was also a member of Trío Arbós until 2014, and he received the National Award for Music in 2013.

From 28 June to 1 July 2017, the summer schedule of the University of Alicante Philharmonic Orchestra  includes four concerts  that will take place in Monòver, Guardamar del Segura, at the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium (ADDA), and in the town of Biar. Mihnea Ignat, the orchestra's tenured and artistic conductor, has prepared a programme with pieces by Grau-Vegara, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and L. van Beethoven that the orchestra will perform with Miguel Borrego Martínas the solo violin..

Miguel Borrego Martín

"His technical skills, thorough knowledge of the recent repertoire, sensitivity and musical culture are well-known due to his restless activity as a chamber musician with Trío Arbós and as a soloist" Xoán M. Carreira; 26 March 2012 in Mundoclásico.

Miguel Borrego Martín has been the concertmaster for the Spanish National TV and Radio (RTVE) Orchestra since 1997. He was a member of Trío Arbós since its foundation until 2014 and received the National Award for Music in 2013.

He performs regularly at major concert halls and international festivals: Konzerthaus of Vienna, Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, Colón Theatre of Buenos Aires, Kuhmo Festival, Venice Biennale, National Music Auditorium of Madrid, Wittener Tage Für Neue Kammermusic, Time of Music Festival of Vitasaari, Nuova Consonanza of Rome, Camagüey International Festival, NUMUS Festival of Toronto, El Salvador International Festival, Santorini International Festival, Ryedale Festival, Quincena Musical of San Sebastián, International Festival of Contemporary Music of Alicante,  Santander Festival, Ensems of Valencia, Central Theatre of Seville, Grenada International Music  Festival, Teatro Real of Madrid, Teatro Monumental of Madrid, Mallorca Main Theatre, Juan March Foundation, etc. He has also performed in many European cities, namely Dublin, Manchester, Lisbon, Brussels, Paris and Munich, as well as in the USA, Japan, Canada, Jordan, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

Borrego has shared the stage with celebrated directors such as Pinchas Steinberg, Walter Weller, George Pelivanian, Jesús López Cobos, Sergiu Comissiona, Antoni Ros Marbá, Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Enrique García Asensio, etc. His interest in the current music scene has also brought him to perform pieces by prestigious composers including Toshio Hosokawa, Cristóbal Halffter, Luis de Pablo, Beat Furrer, Iván Fedele, Georges Aperghis, Jesús Torres and Cesar Camarero, among others, for the first time. 

He has played as a solo violin with the RTVE Orchestra, with the Real Filharmonia of Galicia, the Community of Madrid Orchestra, the Murcia Region Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Spanish Chamber Orchestra, the Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra, the Summer College Orchestra of Colorado Springs, the National Symphony Orchestra of El Salvador, the Universtity of Toronto Orchestra, etc. He has also worked with Grupo Enigma, Cámara XXL, and Taimagranada. Furthermore, he has recorded for the Spanish Television, the National Spanish Radio, and for the labels Col Legno, Naxos, Ensayo, Fundación autor, Kairos and Verso.

Miguel Borrego is also a lecturer at  the conservatories Teresa Berganza, Arturo Soria and Alcalá de Henares. He teaches master classes at the University of Toronto, Cleveland State University and the Lima Conservatory of Music. He has been a lecturer at Motril Music Courses too, as well as a guest lecturer at the National Spanish Youth Orchestra (J.O.N.D.E.), the Catalonia Youth Orchestra (J.O.N.C.), the Youth Orchestra of Castilla y León, the Youth Orchestra of the Basque Country (E.G.O.), the Youth Orchestra of Madrid, the Youth Orchestra of Valencia, the Youth Orchestra of Murcia, etc.  Borrego is also a regular guest at the Master Classes of La Coruña Conservatory. He will teach classes at the next Forum Musikae.

In 2012, Jesús Torres (winner of the National Award for Music 2012) dedicated his concert for violin and orchestra to Borrego, and the piece was first played by the RTVE Orchestra that very year.

His next commitments will take him to the Venice Biennale, the Strasbourg Music Festival, the Accademia Romana, Casals Festival of Puerto Rico, Santorini Festival, the Symphony Orchestra of RTVE under the baton of Walter Weller, the Symphony Orchestra of Navarra, the National Spanish Youth Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, as well as to the cities of Bilbao and Málaga, the Juan March Foundation and the Mostra Sonora of Sueca, where he will be performing two pieces for violin by José Luís Turina, José Río-Pareja and Francisco Lara, among others, for the first time. 

He plays a Carlo Tononi (Bolonia, 1710) violin.
