18th Edition of the Sambori University Competition for Short Narrative in Catalan aimed at students enrolled in Valencian public universities

Sambori Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Alicante, Jaume I University, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, Polytechnic University of Valencia, and University of Valencia, announces its 18th University Competition for Short Narrative in Catalan SAMBORI PRIZE 2021 aimed at all students enrolled in Valencian public universities.

Contest rules summary

  • This competition is open to all students enrolled in any undergraduate degree, Master's degree, or PhD degree this 2020-2021 academic year.
  • Each author may submit only one work, which must be original, unpublished, not awarded or pending resolution in another competition, and with a linguistic quality appropriate to the level. Collective authorship works are allowed.
  • Works must be between 1 and 5 pages long.
  • The deadline for submissions is 15 March 2021 (inclusive). They must be emailed to the address The work must be sent in an attached PDF file, together with the completed entry form.
  • The jury will award three top prizes. The first prize will be the sum of €1,000, the second prize €750, and the third one €500. If there are secondary prizes, the winners will be awarded 250 € each. The winning short stories and the secondary prize ones will be posted as part of the "Arco iris" collection published by the Sambori Foundation and they will also appear on its website.


About Sambori Foundation

Sambori Foundation was created to encourage the artistic and imaginative creativity of Valencian people. The literary competition Sambori Prize improves year after year and aims to achieve different goals. For example, it aims to reach all the centres located in all Valencian municipalities and to open up other paths for the linguistic standardisation and the socio-cultural use of the Catalan language by helping to promote and disseminate it. In the same way, it intends to defend the language rights and unity in order to increase its knowledge and usage, as well as and to encourage its promotion, twinning, and collaboration with languages and cultures around the world.


17th Edition of the Sambori Prizes at the UA


In 2019, the UA Auditorium hosted the award ceremony at the 17th edition of the Sambori Prizes.

Among the more than 100,000 participants who took part in that edition, two students from the University of Alicante were awarded the 1st and 2nd Sambori Prizes in the 16th University Competition for Short Narrative in Valencian. Antonio Sánchez Verdú won with his work Arbeit Macht Frei, and Joaquim Cano Sais with Les mans fredes.
