  • Exhibition 21st Contemporary Art Encounters’ Contest (EAC 2021) - El Cub MUA exhibition hall - From 11 June to 25 July 2021.

The University of Alicante and the Juan Gil-Albert Culture Institute in Alicante have inaugurated a new contest of the Contemporary Art Encounters (EAC) in El Cub exhibition hall at the University of Alicante Museum (MUA). The 21st version of this exhibition will remain open to the public until 26 July.

The show is made up of 24 proposals, individual and collective, created by 27 artists, which have been selected from among the 128 creations submitted to this year’s EAC call. Twelve of the 24 selected proposals were submitted to the painting, collage and drawing category: eight to sculpture, one to photography, five to installations (two to multimedia works and three to videos) with the participation of 25 Spanish artists and two more from Argentina and Portugal.

The wealth of this group exhibition is, on the one hand, the presence of artists from different generations, places and disciplines, which allows for enriching dialogues. On the other hand, the public is invited to enter a creative universe full of suggestions, questions, reflections and unexpected discoveries.

The jury of this contest is made up by Pilar Tébar Martínez, Juan Gil-Albert Institute Cultural Director, Isabel Tejeda Martín, PhD in Fine Arts from the Valencia University of Technology (UPV), lecturer at the University of Murcia, art critic and curator, Susana Guerrero Sempere, PhD in Fine Arts from the Miguel Hernandez University (UMH), Massimo Pisani, artist, cultural manager, member and founder of the cultural association Un Argine all’Arte in Casale di San Martino dall’Argine (Mantova), Juan F. Navarro, Bachelor of Fine Arts at the UMH, PhD in Mathematics, artist and curator, and Remedios Navarro Mondéjar, Bachelor of Art History and senior technician at the University of Alicante.

The University of Alicante and the Alicante Provincial Council, through the Juan Gil-Albert Culture Institute have maintained a close and interrupted collaboration for 18 years, a joint work that allows us to present a new contest of the Contemporary Art Encounters. This is an common place for the public to share thoughts and connect with new expressive languages on creation and contemporary society.
