  • La Marea. Aula Teatro UA 2016 2

    UA Theatre Club's La Marea wins 6 awards in the Paco Rabal National Competition in Águilas (Murcia)

    Last 26 November, the UA Theatre Club took part in Paco Rabal National Competition in Águilas (Murcia) with the play La Marea   (when fish started to fight against men) under the direction of Iván Jiménez. After La Marea had made its way to the top 4 of the 76 plays that signed up for this edition of the contest, it finally won 6 awards: Best Play; Best Director; Best Production Design; Best Lighting Design; Best Scenography and Nazarín Award to the Best Junior Performance.

    Esta muestra, que cumple su décima edición, está formada por una selección actualizada de 32 imágenes en lonas de gran tamaño que recogen la realidad de la violencia de género en su grado más extremo, el de los asesinatos machistas, que acaban con la vida de alrededor de 70 mujeres en España cada año. La inauguración coincide con el 25N, Día Mundial contra la Violencia de Género.

    Brain Conferences, a series of lectures about art, communication and the human brain, will be held in paralel to "Inestablos", the new exhibition by Lidó Rico at MUA. Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 at the University Venue: "Museums as vessels for emotions and the power of art as a therapy against Alzheimer's disease" and "The social perception of epilepsy" (at 8.15 p.m.)  And on Wednesday at MUA: "Social networks and addiction" (at 10 a.m.), "Neuromarketing: reading the consumer's mind" (at 11:30 a.m.), and "Genoarchitectures:  addictions embodied" (at 5 p.m.) and "Do emotions have a history?" (at 7 p.m.).

    The University Institute for Gender Studies Research (JUIEG) has organised the exhibition "Women and science. 13 names to change the world", an initiative created by Research chair Tomás Pascual Sanz and the National Research Centre on Human Evolution (CENIEH) that shows the (often altruistic) research work carried out by women. The driving force of their work is knowledge, understood as product generated by humans, for humans.

I. Tchaikovsky, several waltzes and polkas by Strauss and a few surprises.

    Exhibition "El Infinito Borges" at the University of Alicante Museum

    El Infinito Borges is a tribute to author Jorge Luis Borges to mark the thirtieth anniversary of his death. The exhibition will cover all his life and literary production. Visitors will discover different paths where new directions constantly open, taking them on a journey through Borges' own universe, for this author is infinite, and as such there is a special infinite with his name on it.  The exhibition will be open until 10 January.

    UA dedicates an exhibition to the Monument to the Martyrs of Freedom in Alicante

    Until 23 December - Aifos Exhibition Hall (Faculty of Arts 3)

    Between 1907 and 1939, the Monument to the Martyrs of Freedom was alandmark of democratic memory in the city of Alicante. It was destroyed by Franco's authorities during the post-war era. Now UA's exhibition "A democratic memory landmark: the postcards of the Monument to the Martyrs of Freedom in Alicante" will celebrate this monument. It can be visited in Aifos Exhibition Hall on Campus.

    Flamenco singer Curro Piñana to perform at the Alicante City University Venue

    Friday 18 November - Alicante City University Venue - 8 p.m.

    Flamenco singer Curro Piñana will explore the most important flamenco styles. To do so, he will start with the "minero" style from Almería, to then finish with the most lively ones, such as bulerías, tangos and alegrías, among others. Each of them will have an educational purpose that will bring us closer to each of the flamenco styles proposed. This show is held within the cicle Divendres a la Seu.

    Activity programme for the 2016 San Alberto Magno festivities at the UA Faculty of Scienc

    Both science and culture will be the protagonists of San Alberto Magno's celebration. This year it will include information lectures, photography and flash fiction contests, sports competitions, and two awards (Chemistry Research and Jorge Juan award in Mathematics), among other events.

    UA to participate in a new edition of the Contemporary Authors Theatre Festival

    From 4 to 12 November 

    Once again, Alicante will bring national theatre into the spotlight with the celebration of the  24th Contemporary Authors Theatre Festival. As usual, the University of Alicante will take part in this great contest, with the performance of La exiliada, la negra, la puta, el caracol y la mística next Thursday 10 December. Meanwhile, the Festival will start to fill the city with theatre through more than 20 plays by 38 authors.

    International Congress "Inca Garcilaso between two river banks: a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of his death" to be held at CeMaB

    From 23 to 25 November - Mario Benedetti Centre for Ibero-American Studies 

    This year it is the 400th anniversary of the death of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, who was the most important author in Peruvian literature and in the Golden Age of Spanish literature. The congress will try to renew the lines of research that relate the works by the author from Cuzco with the latest findings in different disciplines. This will be a unique opportunity to put his legacy back in the spotlight and highlight his key importance in several areas as well as the significance and transcendence of his message.

    El escritor, diplomático y presentador Fernando Schwartz presenta en la sede un nuevo lanzamiento de Publicaciones de la UA. Historia y fotografía se dan la mano en este libro coeditado por Carlos Barciela y Carmen Ródenas sobre la experiencia de los exiliados republicanos españoles en los campos de trabajo norteafricanos del gobierno de la Francia de Vichy.
